Understanding Panic Disorder
Panic Disorder is characterized by recurrent, unexpected panic attacks—intense episodes of sudden fear or discomfort that peak within minutes. These attacks can be overwhelming and often lead to significant distress or avoidance of certain situations.
Common Symptoms of Panic Disorder:
- Rapid heart rate or palpitations
- Sweating
- Trembling or shaking
- Shortness of breath
- Chest pain or discomfort
- Nausea or abdominal distress
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Feelings of choking
- Numbness or tingling
- Chills or hot flashes
- Fear of losing control or “going crazy”
- Fear of dying
In our sessions, we use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) tools, including:
- Panic Control Treatment: Techniques to help you understand and manage panic attacks, including gradual exposure to feared sensations.
- Cognitive Restructuring: Identifying and challenging irrational thoughts that fuel panic.
- Relaxation Techniques: Breathing exercises and mindfulness practices to reduce the physical symptoms of panic.
We provide a supportive environment where you can learn to manage and reduce the frequency and intensity of panic attacks, develop coping strategies, and regain control over your daily life.
